Constructing a City Behind Closed Doors. Jason Dowling discusses the role of lobbyists in Victorian planning raises serious issues.
In the name of preserving jobs and stimulating the economy, Planning Minister Justin Madden has seized planning control of nearly a dozen massive projects, and developers for at least three of these were represented by lobbying firms Hawker Britton…. The role of lobbyists in determining Government priorities raises serious issues. So how does the Government decide which projects require intervention? CoRBA noted the number of consultative committees that the Council has decided unilaterally to discontinue in recent times and urged the Council to:

Takeover of power by State from Council.
It is preferable for Councils to do property valuations but the State want to take it over. If you think it is hard to keep rates down, wait until the state does valuations of your property. Don’t forget they are also thinking about land tax. Darebin Council have voted against it and Boroondara have refused it out of hand.
